Games Day UK – travelling from Sheffield

June 6, 2010

Last year we organised a minibus from Sheffield to Games Day with our usual driver Ky and his pimped out minibus (tinted windows, dvd player, playstation!), and with tickets on sale it’s time to see if enough people are interested in minibus travel so we can arrange it.

The local store coach ticket is £15, and you’re more than welcome to use that to travel, but you won’t get one of Becky’s home cooked bacon rolls thrown in for that price! SI also don’t allow anyone under a certain age either, and we insist on letting people sleep on the way down if they want.

Last year the minibus price was £20 and we had to fill it to get that price.

We got to the NEC in plenty of time last year, and were close to the front of the Golden Demon queue.

If you’re interested in travelling on the SI minibus to Games Day UK from Sheffield, please leave a comment below soon. If enough people are interested then we’ll go ahead and book the minibus. If not enough people are interested, then store coach it is. (There are two leaving from Sheffield, Meadow Hall and The Moor).

Ever fancied having a go at sculpting and wanted someone to show you how? Already confident with the putty, but want to learn more?

James (known as Cybersquig on numerous painting forums), over at Griffin Guides is running a Sculpt-a-long via his website, for people of all skills levels to join in, have fun and learn more about sculpting mini figures. There are already 3 articles on getting prepared, including what tools you’ll need.

One week to go

September 20, 2009

Games Day UK 09 is only 1 week away now – and if you’re anything like me you’re still working on your Golden Demon entry.

The big painters meet up on the day will be held at the Crowne Plaza hotel from 12:00 till 15:00, but we have planned for a Sheffield Irregulars meet up at 12:30, at the Golden Demon repair table.

It’d be great to meet up with members from all over, and hopefully there will be a photo op.

Anyone wanting to head over to the painters meet up afterwards will be very welcome – but if you just want to enjoy the day in NEC itself, go right ahead and enjoy yourself.

If you spot anyone in a Sheffield Irregulars/Irregular Magazine sweater or t-shirt on the day, be sure to stop and say hi.

Looking forward to meeting up with everyone, seeing your entries for the painting competition, and looking at your photos of the day afterwards 🙂

We’re planning to try to Tweet the results of the Golden Demon awards – but this depends on how fast I can text on the day. So if you’re not attending, make sure you’re following us on Twitter: We plan to use the hash tag #GDUK09 wherever possible, and if you’re tweeting too – use it as well, so we can find out about your day as well.

On the shoulders of giants

September 8, 2009

Warhammer Giants appear to have gained popularity with painters since Julian Casses produced his Demon winning entry in the UK last year.

Here are some other winning giants from various ‘Demons around the world.

Platoon Britannica

June 23, 2009

Still recovering a little from the weekend, where the Platoon Britannica meet up was held at Warhammer World in Nottingham.

This was the 2nd PB meet up and looks set to have a third next year.

Robin and Ben from PB set up the event to encourage the British painting community to support each other and create a real community dimension to the hobby, especially in the competitive field – where this seems to be lacking (Golden Demon in particular).

With painters coming from all over the country, as far away as Scotland for the event it was really a great meeting of talent. Many people had only ‘met’ previously online, so this was a chance to see both the painter, and their models in real life.
